Each year Swan Haven, on Marsh Lake (about 40 minutes outside of Whitehorse), plays host to thousands of swans for several weeks in the spring. This location sees open water significantly earlier than the surrounding landscape and provides the swans with a safe haven as they wait for winter to recede. Each year to mark the arrival of the swans, the Celebration of the Swans takes place. The celebration extends over several weeks and is hosted by the Yukon Government’s Wildlife Viewing office who runs programs covering swan biology, art, birding, etc. Each year to mark the program, an art poster is produced from work by a local artist chosen during a poster design contest. The past posters are beautiful and I’ve always admired them. Because of this I thought I’d try and design my own poster entry this year, the results of which you can see above. Keep your fingers crossed for me.
