The Craft Project

Mardis Gras

March 8th is Mardis Gras and in celebration I joined a swap on Swap Bot to create a mask for a swap partner.  The idea was to pick up a plastic half-face mask from a craft store to use as a base and then go wild on the decorations.  I ended up laying down layers of gesso and acrylic before adding more details in acrylic and finishing the whole thing off with layers of modge podge, sparkles and the occasional tiny jewel.  I had a huge amount of fun creating this, and the fact that I know I’ve got a mask coming in the mail will probably spark the planning of a Mardis Gras party (perhaps with a mask/costume making pre-party).  What do you think?  Should I throw Whitehorse’s first celebration of Mardis Gras?  Any ideas for costumes/masks/decorations?
