The Craft Project

Into the Woods

I’ve been thinking about fairy tales a lot recently.  About the inherent beauty, joy and imagination coupled to darkness and fear and how much bravery is built into the heroes and heroines of the stories.  I wanted to capture that juxtaposition of darkness and light and celebrate that bravery in a piece.

The completed piece took a lot longer, and quite a few more missteps, than I had anticipated.  The monsters several layers deep in the piece were originally not clear enough; the ink detailing was too light originally; the halo of the candle originally obliterated too much of the image; and it was challenging to make the image dark enough without losing the detail.  Then there was an amazing moment of clarity when it all came together and it was done.  I hope you enjoy it.
