I have started scheming some plans for a large embroidery project. But before launching into such a grand endeavour I thought I’d better shake the rust off by starting out with a few smaller projects (I haven’t done any form of needle craft since I was a kid). I present to you the results of the first of these smaller projects (with sincere thanks to Vanessa Ægirsdóttir for the refresher on some of the basic stitches).
It felt very satisfying to create the juxtaposition of the coarseness of language with the traditional style of an embroidered wall hanging. I like things that will make people do a double take. Plus, given the state of the world at the moment it felt good to get some of the frustrations with our current reality out and into a pretty and creative form.
