For the last while I’be been working with a super talented team through Shot in the Dark Film Productions to begin the creation process of what we hope will eventually evolve into a “Northern Tails” children’s web series, populated completely with puppets. Our pilot, Chi-igii, focuses on the first year in the life of a baby caribou. I’ve been spending over six months now building and needle felting puppets, sewing costumes, and building sets and props – and I’m excited […]
The wonderful folks at Brit & Co have done it again – they partnered with Velcro to create Halloween themed Brit Kits which they sent out to a lucky few to host mask making parties. I was one of those lucky few, so I pulled together a set of my friends to work with stiffened felt, sticky-backed velcro dots, gold glitter glue, and mask forms. The diversity of creatures and characters that evolved from a limited colour palette of black, […]
A group of Yukon artists have come together to create a Skeleton Parade for Whitehorse for Halloween. We’ve been scheming costumes, lanterns, and puppets and we’d love for you to join us. You can find out more here or you are free to simply show up at the event. I hope to see you there!
As promised I want to share with all of you the process I went through to create the mask for my steampunk costume in case you’d like to create your own incarnation. I started by drawing out the design of the mask on the piece of paper. I wanted to make sure to use an octopus in the design as it is often incorporated into steampunk motifs because of its links to the writings of Jules Verne (20,000 Leagues Under the […]
I’m so thrilled to announce that I’ve made it through the audition round and into the main competition for season 15 of So You Think You’re Crafty. I’m very excited. Thank you everyone who took the time to vote for myself and my fellow crafters. Now that the list of ten crafters moving forward in the competition has been announced I can officially tell you that my entry was the steampunk costume. Thank you to Tyler Kuhn for the fabulous […]

I have been waiting patiently (or possible not-so-patiently) for photos from Winterval to be ready to share them with all of you. Winterval took place on December 1. It is Whitehorse’s answer to a Santa Claus parade, but with the concept of celebrating winter more generally instead of just Christmas – after all, us Yukoners know how to do winter. I got the job of helping to pull the event together and I have to say I love Whitehorse’s community […]
This week I will step onto the stage for Fusion’s two night run at the Old Fire Hall (closing tonight). The preparation of my and Emilie Caron’s piece has involved a huge amount of production on our parts: puppets and costumes (duplicated in different sizes for various moments in the work); set pieces for the puppets to interact with; a bilingual script; dance choreography; and an audio file complete with sound effects and narration (for which we got a crash course in Final […]
I love Halloween – how can you not with pumpkin carving, candy and costumes? Tyler and I love the original Pink Panther movies (although we love the cartoons as well) and so the pumpkins we carved this year (along with our friend Oliver) paid tribute to that. Pared with the fun we had with this year’s costumes for the Guild Hall Halloween party and the Northern Masquerade it’s shaping up into a fantastic Halloween. I hope yours is as well. […]
For my 30th birthday party last year we threw an all-out 1920’s murder mystery party. After we had recovered from the actual event I put together an article with my husband Tyler Kuhn’s photography for Mingle Magazine. It just came out and I wanted to share it with you here!
This last week has been all about costumes for me. The week started out with the GoMedia Conference. This high profile travel media conference was taking place in Whitehorse this year. The organizers were trying to give the event as much Yukon flair as possible which resulted in some very cool events, including a lunch at the Yukon Inn Convention Centre chock-a-block full of Klondike characters. I was there as a can can dancer, but we had gold rush stampeders, […]
