Over the course of the last week I was the visual artist for Arts in the Park. I lucked out with getting one of the nicest, sunniest weeks of their programming this summer so far. I spent large chunks of the lunch hour demo slots teaching piles of kids to paint, but I still found a enough time to complete a piece over the five days as well. It, along with my Celebration of Swans poster piece, are forming the […]
Canada Day marked the 150th birthday of our nation. To celebrate, the Wish 150 Mosaic traveled to Kluane National Park and Reserve, along with a few of the artists, as part of the park’s celebrations. It was really lovely to celebrate the day in the park – Tyler and I took our baby, Inara, and our dog, Shiloh, for a road trip the week before through Skagway and Haines Alaska and Kluane, timing things to arrive for the opening reception. […]
Recently I applied to be an artist for the Canada C3 expedition, a Canada 150 project that will circumnavigate Canada this summer from coast to coast to coast via the Northwest Passage. I wasn’t one of the lucky 15 artists chosen, although I’m in good company as 500 of us did apply. I found the application process a rewarding exercise on it’s own however – we were tasked with creating a two minute video introducing ourselves and explaining our interest […]
The Wish150 Yukon Mosaic opened at Arts Underground on Friday night to a jam-packed crowd. I was really honoured to be one of the artists asked to create work for the mosaic. 14 Yukon artists came together to depict our wishes for Canada in mosaic panels. The panels were then combined to create the image of a raven, Yukon’s official bird. The project is national in scope – with each province and territory creating their own mosaic – the […]
I’m excited to announce that my piece The Swan has been chosen to be the 2017 Celebration of Swans poster image. Each year, thousands of swans flock to patches of early open water in Southern Yukon. Yukoners and visitors alike love spending time watching the birds, which has led Environment Yukon to host the Celebration of Swans, an annual month-long event that combines bird watching, art, music, science, interpretation, and community engagement. To me it speaks to how closely linked […]
Well hello there loyal readers – long time, no see. It turns out that when you get pregnant and then give birth to a tiny bundle of joy or mischief personified, depending on your perspective and their mood, you lose time for pretty much everything else for a little while. But I’m back now! And you’ll start to see more regular blog posts again. For those of you who followed me on Twitter and Instagram my apologies for the accounts […]

I got some exciting news the other day. My piece Raven and Wolf that I created as part of the Plein Air Festival a few weeks ago was awarded the Aasman Public Choice Award for the festival. The award is determined by votes from everyone who attended the festival exhibition. The work of my fellow artists was truly fantastic, so I’m very honoured and humbled to have been presented with this beautiful award which is now living in my art […]
It’s been a busy week for art teaching. I spent Saturday at the Fireweed Market teaching a workshop on mixed media art cards and tomorrow afternoon I’ll be at Yukon Artists at Work teaching mixed media canvases as part of their Art Tasters Series. I’ve included the poster here in case you want to see the full suite of awesome workshops taking pace over the summer.
I have spent the last four days in the sun, wind, and rain with a group of fellow artists for Whitehorse’s second annual Plein Air Festival. Each day we were assigned a location to paint in – the SS Klondike, the Whitehorse Wharf, the grounds of the Whitehorse Visitor Reception Centre, and the front yard of Yukon Artists at Work – and between 11 am and 4 pm would set up outside and create a piece. With ten artists hard […]
Recently I was asked to create a commission of a swan using “huge amounts of pink and purple” with the words “she believed in the journey”. This is the end result. The women who commission it was thrilled and hopefully it brings a smile to your face as well.
